Herman Creek Campground

Situated in a stand of Douglas Fir, Herman Creek Horse Camp offers 7 sites, some with stalls, on a first come, first serve basis.  This site has a turnaround and can accommodate stock trailers.

No hookups available on site.

A trailhead for Herman Creek Trail (#406) and the Pacific Crest Trail (#2000) is located in the campground.  Trails provide access to the Pacific Crest Trail and Trails #406E, #447, #422, and #437.

General Information

Directions: Herman Creek Horse Camp is located just east of Cascade Locks and 47 miles from Portland.

From Portland, OR: Travel east on Interstate 84 to Cascade Locks, exit # 44. Drive under the interstate and through town approximately 1.8 miles to the eastbound entrance ramp. At the stop sign, cross the road and drive east 1.6 miles on Forest Land toward Oxbow Fish Hatchery, then on to Herman Creek Campground.

From Hood River, OR: Travel west on Interstate 84 to Herman Creek exit # 47. Drive 0.6 mile west on Forest Lane to Herman Creek Campground.

Many trails can be accessed from the campground for short or long day hike.

Backpacking

The site also serves as a trail head for the Herman Creek Trail #406 and the Pacific Crest Trail #2000. Access to Trails #406E, #447, #422, and #437.

Horse Riding

Horse riding is allowed on certain trails in the area.  Contact the local office for more information on which and when trails are opened for horses. And, as always, please stay on the existing trails and roadbeds!
